The Life of a Student is Never Easy

In another shameless hijack of the band blog, let me present to you a poem dedicated to all the students who have suffered and will suffer through our thoroughly delightful and rigourous education system. It is still very much a work in progress, so I would appreciate any and all comments. Let me present to you:

The Life of a Student is Never Easy
(Or So They Say)

The life of a student is never easy
especially at this point in your life
Life is a constant balancing act between work and play
you gotta work hard and play hard, no time for lazing around all day
Worse still, are the hormonal imbalances that dominate
much of teenage years -
I mean how do you concentrate when
getting that girl's number is all you care then

The life of a student is not an easy one
navigating the convoluted paths of teenage relationships
Your friends of 4 years are gone, and
you're chucked into a new and strange environment
Taking the measure
of someone's character
is not easy in two years, oh no
It is all too easy to fall prey to
good looks, and a charming smile that deceives you

The life of a student is not easy
Flames that burn the brighest
burn out fastest
In two years, you
are forced to grow up,
mature
despite your very human weaknesses
So much is expected of you
so much you have to do

But then
Somehow
that brief burst of intensity
that period of frantic activity
somehow
makes it all
the more worthwhile

Therefore I say
the life of a student is not an easy one
but I won't have it any other way
when all else is said and done.
